Intermittent fasting has become a trendy way to lose weight, and recent research suggests it can also impact the bacteria living in our gut! In a study with 72 diverse participants, volunteers lost an average of 3.67 kg in three weeks. The best part? These positive results were seen regardless of the person’s initial weight or gut bacteria status.

After the fasting, researchers found an increase in two “good” bacteria: Parabacteroides distasonis and Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron. These microscopic helpers have been linked to reduced obesity and heart disease. Intermittent fasting also boosted genes related to breaking down carbs and producing beneficial compounds like succinate and GABA.

So, the takeaway? Intermittent fasting could be a promising weight loss strategy for people of all shapes and sizes, with the bonus of promoting good gut health!

Great article! It’s fascinating to learn about how intermittent fasting not only has positive effects on weight loss, but also impacts our gut bacteria. Have any further studies been conducted to see how long these benefits last after the fasting period?
