Graphene Oxide: The Supermaterial That May Affect Your Immune System in an Unforeseen Way!

A recent study has shown that a type of material called graphene oxide, which is used in many products such as electronics, can affect the immune system through the gut microbiome. The study, which was conducted using zebrafish, found that exposure to graphene oxide changed the makeup of the gut microbiome and triggered a type of immunity typically seen in response to parasitic infections. This immune response was dependent on the presence of a certain receptor in the intestinal cells. These findings suggest that the gut microbiome should be taken into account when examining the potential effects of graphene oxide and similar materials on the immune system.
