New study finds that depression may be linked to the gut microbiome – turns out it’s not just all in your head… it’s also in your belly!

In a recently published article in Nature Communications authors investigated the relationship between the gut microbiome (the microorganisms living in the digestive tract) and symptoms of depression. The study involved analyzing the gut microbiomes of individuals with and without depressive symptoms and identifying any differences between the two groups. The researchers found that individuals with depressive symptoms had a different composition of gut microbes compared to those without such symptoms. They also found that certain types of bacteria were more prevalent in individuals with depressive symptoms, while other types were less common. The authors concluded that there may be a link between the gut microbiome and depression, and further research is needed to confirm and better understand this relationship.
